Alexandra Heliotis
Deputy Chief, Marine Chart Division

 

Alexandra B. Heliotis is Deputy Chief of the Marine Chart Division. She has been in NOAA for over 24 years and has been responsible for the development and implementation of data acquisition and data processing systems for the NOAA fleet of ships in support of oceanographic and fisheries studies as well as multibeam hydrography. In the last three years, she was the project manager for the implementation of a ship-wide integrated fiber optic network; for the acquisition and management of data from multiple complex sensors and subsystems; for the Internet at sea; and ship-to-shore communications systems for two new NOAA ships.

Alexandra received her Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Maryland in 1974 and a Master of Science degree in computer science from The Johns Hopkins University in 1979.
